Hospitium, Museum Gardens, York

The ground floor of this timber and stone building is medieval and would have served as a guest house or a barn within the monastery.

The 1st floor was substantially rebuilt in the 20th century to accommodate the ever growing archaeology collections of the museum. Between the two periods it was used as an agricultural building.

It is now used as a conference and wedding venue by York Museums Trust. The 14th century Hospitium is licensed to hold weddings and civil partnership ceremonies and can accommodate up to 130 guests at the ceremony.

The Hospitium provides a peaceful, private and atmospheric venue. It is a 2 storey listed building ser within the beautiful Museum Gardens, overlooked by striking ruins of St. Mary’s Abbey, the perfect setting for your wedding photographs.

The Hospitium is available for hire for receptions throughout the day and evening, so they are able to cater for the whole of your special day if you wish.

The ground floor is ideal for welcoming guests with a drinks reception & hosting a disco and bar, while the first floor provides a stunning dining room for your wedding breakfast.

It can accommodate up to 135 guests seated for a wedding breakfast and up to 200 guests for a drinks/buffet reception.
